Tragically, AIDS continues to decimate the gay community - infection rates are especially
high among gay and bisexual youth, and increasingly among people of color. To combat new
infections, teh Gay & Lesbian Center operates an acclaimed HIV prevention/education program,
Man2Man, to address new attitutdes and perceptions regarding safer sex and HIV infection
with those most at risk.
Part of a collaboration with AIDS Project Los Angeles and LA Shanti, Man2Man meets
at The Village at Ed Gould Plaza, the Gay & Lesbian Center's amazing new educational ,
cultural and social center in Hollywood. The village is designed to address some of the
factors which can lead to HIV-infection by building the health, strength and self-esteem of
the gay and lesbian community.
React is a unique program of the Gay & Lesbian Center's Youth Services Department,
supporitng HIV-positive youth and encouraging safer sex among those under 25 through educational
events and activities. Relate targets youth with safer sex messages through outreach at schools,
clubs and bars.
As part of the organization's work to combat new infections, the Gay & Lesbian Center also
administers the California AIDS Clearinghouse, a state-funded program which produces and
distributes thousands of HIV/AIDS-related brochures, posters and other education and prevention
materials to AIDS service organizations throughout California.

The Youth Services Department provides critical services to the homeless, runaways and other
gay and lesbian youth in our community who have no where else to turn for help and are
one of the highest risk groups for HIV infection. The youth Department's Kruks-Tilsner
Transitional Living Program, a 24-bed residence designed to help homeless gay and lesbian
youth make the transition to independent living, is the only one of its kind.
The Jeff Griffith Gay & Lesbian Youth Center on Santa Monica Blvd., located in an
area highly populated by homeless gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth,
supports a large number of youth who are HIV-positive and works to prevent new infections
among this high risk group by providing HIV/STD testing and education. The Youth Center
also offers job skills training, educational opportunities, counseling, support groups
and legal advocacy as well as hot meals, showers, art/exercise classes and clothing.
All serices are designed to help youth get off and stay off the streets.
The Legal Sercices Department offers free legal counsel to more than 5,000 low - income
lesbians and gay men ever year. The HIV Law Project of the department provides
legal services such as wills and durable powers-of attorney to people with HIV
and conducts numerous off-site clinics as a member of HALSA (HIV & AIDS Legal Services
Alliance) to support the clients/ patients of other organizations throughout Los
